The Junior 'A' football team had three outings in recent weeks and while the results have been mixed, overall the performances have been good generally.
First up was Barryroe in Glengarriff in the South West Football League on the 11th June and it was the visitors who shaded the opening half leading by 1-05 to 1-03 at half time, the Glen goal courtesy of Donal O'Sullivan. Glengarriff battled back into the game and approaching full time had tied the scores with help from a Shaun O'Sullivan penalty but the visitors had an injury time point to win by 1-10 to 2-06.
Next up was a mid week trip in the South West Football League on 7th July to Kilbrittian who dominated the first half and had an eight point half time lead, 1-10 to 1-02. Glengarriff upped their game in the second thirty minutes and by full time had the score board reading Kilbrittian 1-14 ~ Glengarriff 2-06, the goal scorers were Donal O'Sullivan and Paul Connolly.
The final outing of three was a trip to Castletownbere on 9th July in the Beara Football League, where a win would give the Glen a place in the League Final against Urhan and this was achieved with a six point victory. A Kevin O'Sullivan goal had Glengarriff winning by 1-04 to 0-04 at half time with Donal O'Sullivan netting in the second half to secure victory by 2-07 to 0-07.
A Note About Championship 2010!
Glengarriff are to start the defence of their Beara Junior 'A' Football Championship with a Semi-Final game against Castletownbere on Sunday August 8th 2010 in Adrigole at 4p.m. The Glen will be hoping for a repeat of last years semi-final, where they beat Town 2-16 to 1-08 to book their place in the Final against Garnish and we all know what happened on that historic day!
