Race Night 2012

Glengarriff GAA Club's fundraising Race Night took place over the Christmas period and like many festival meetings throughout the country, the numbers attending were well up. The opening race sponsored by DHC Construction was won by “Uncool Dude” owned by Joe Holland and returned at 5/1. Laura Hurley’s “Chairman’s Lass” was a clear winner in the 2nd race, the King of Woolly Jumpers Chase and in the Expert Hardware, High Octane Hurdle, footballer turned owner, Ciaran O’Sullivan was a winner with “Beara Oil”. Mike O’Shea’s “White Van Man” took the honours in the Biggs Oil sponsored race four and in the Mary O’Sullivan Accountants four mile bumper, Paul Connolly hit the jackpot with “Peddle On”. Race six, sponsored by C.H. Roofing Supplies was won by “Mountain View” owned by Barry McSweeney with race sponsor Rory O’Callaghan’s “Legal Eagle” first past the post in race seven. Ann O’Sullivan was a winner in the Casey’s Filling Station sprint for young fillies and in race nine sponsored by John J. O’Sullivan & Associates Pat and Ann O’Shea hit the jackpot with “Green Grocer”. Noel Donegan Plant Hire sponsored race ten, The Earth Movers three mile bumper and local pharmacist Nuala Carey had the winner in “Pharmacy Queen”. In the feature race of the night, the Auction Hurdle, Katie Hourihan’s syndicate scooped the loot with “Reenmeen Express” followed closely by “Best Dressed Lady” owned by Chris and Rhonda with Bernard Harrington’s “Maple Leaf Lad” a strong third. Best dressed gent was Martin Collins, Ardnatrush and best dressed lady was Rhonda Evans, Reenmeen. On behalf of the organisers, Noel Hurley thanked everybody who supported the effort through sponsorship and attending on the night. He also thanked Bernard Harrington for the use of the premises and he gave a special mention to club P.R.O. Johnny Galvin for his efforts.
