REBEL ÓG is pleased to announce the inception of the Rebel Óg Awards scheme in conjunction with our main sponsors Rochestown Park Hotel , our media partners Cork’s Red FM and Irish Examiner and our Award Sponsor Cummin’s Sports, says Marc Sheehan (Chairman Rebel Óg & Children’s Officer Cork GAA).

The main focus of Rebel Óg is to support and develop Gaelic Games at club and school levels for players taking part in our activities up to eighteen years of age. The competitions for 2012 commence on the weekend of February 4th/5th and a full programme of league and championship activity will be administered by the Rebel Óg Central, East, West and North.

Rebel Óg are conscious of the contribution of clubs and schools to the nurturing and development of Gaelic games and we believe that this scheme will recognise and acknowledge endeavour and achievement within the communities of the recipients. The scheme will provide 12 monthly winners with a Banquet at the year end to announce the overall winner.

Furthermore we are honoured that Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Criostóir Ó Cuana and his wife Ann will honour the Awards with their presence at the first event on Monday Jan 30th.

Rebel Óg are upbeat about the ambitious programme for 2012 and we are also enthuastic about the capacity of the awards to further strengthen our Games at the heart of every household and community.

Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Criostóir Ó Cuana will officially launch the New Awards Scheme on Monday next 30th January at 5.30pm at the Rochestown Park Hotel. Details of the Winner/Winners will be officially announced at the Awards Dinner. Members of the Adjudicating Panel include School Principal Mr. Michael Evans, Chairman, Former All Ireland Winners Mark Landers, Seán O’Gorman and Dunmanway native Donal McCarthy.

Speaking ahead of the inaugural Rebel Óg Monthly Awards, Fiona Darcy, CEO of Cork’s RedFM speaks highly of the new initiative – “Cork’s RedFM is delighted to be involved in the Rebel óg Sports Awards. The station has always been committed to promoting GAA at both local and underage level and is delighted to be involved in this initiative which highlights the enthusiasm and innovation shown by Cork GAA in developing underage sports in Ireland.”

Joe Harrington, Producer of the dedicated Sports Show on Cork’s RedFM “The Big Red Bench”, also reinforces this view: “Cork’s RedFM is proud to be a partner of Rebel Óg. The partnership illustrates our commitment to Gaelic Games in the county, not just at senior level, and we are looking forward to working with and promoting Cork’s future stars.” The Big Red Bench airs every Saturday and Sunday from 6 on Cork’s RedFM.

The Rochestown Park Hotel is delighted to announce its 2012 sponsorship of Rebel Óg according to Mr. Tom Tobin, Operations Manager of the Hotel.

“RPH has been very proud in its support of local clubs and teams since it opened its doors to the public in 1989. The hotel has welcomed many sporting families and friends over the years and they in turn have also supported us and enabled us to become one of the most recognisable Hotel Brands in the greater Cork area. We appreciate this support enormously.

This particular partnership with Rebel Óg is very exciting for Rochestown Park Hotel as we are delighted to support and encourage the youth of today and the stars of tomorrow. The enthusiasm of youth teams is contagious and brings with it wonderful hope for the future. “

Mr. Tony Leen, Sports Editor of the Irish Examiner, Media Sponsor of the event says he looks forward to promoting the Rebel Óg initiative over the coming years.
