Our Annual Underage Presentation evening was held in The Glengarriff Park Hotel on Sunday last, February 27th, and was haled as a great success by all involved. The evening began with a sit-down children’s main course and a snack plate for the adults. This was followed by presentations to the Under 12’s, Under 10’s & Under 8’s.

The Presentation of the medals was made by our own, Glengarriff & Cork football star Matthew O’Shea, who gave a small speech prior to presenting the medals. He encouraged all of the young players to keep up the participation in the sport and he also thanked the mentors for the time they put in year after year with the underage teams.
The Under 12 players were the first to be presented with their medals and were called individually by their 2010 mentor, Eugene McCarthy. They received two medals each, one for winning the ‘2010 South West U12 League Competition’ and the other for the ‘John Power Cup’ Beara Under 12 Football Championship, which they also won.

The Under 8’s were called forward by, Michael O’Shea, one of the many mentors involved with this group and he thanked all the others who helped out during the year. These players received a medal to mark their involvement in the "Beara Under 8 Play & Stay Blitz Days" held during the last year. As these days were run on the ‘Go Games’ principal no results are recorded, so this was a token gesture by the club to the future stars of Glengarriff GAA.

The presentations were followed by a number of announcements by PRO, John Galvin, about some upcoming events and plans for the 30years History Book. These were followed by the first public speech made by our new Chairperson, Noel Hurley.

He thanked all of the mentors & trainers of the underage teams for their commitment during 2010 and encouraged all of the players to stay with the sport and one day they will be pulling on the Junior Jersey to represent Glengarriff at the highest level. He urged all our members and supporters to keep up the good work with our underage teams in 2011 and hoped to see even more medals & trophies at this event next year! The evening was concluded with a kiddies disco, provided by, Martin Hurley.

Earlier in the evening, Club Registrar, Shirley Murphy, was collecting registration for 2011 and was delighted by the number of people who took this opportunity to register their children for the coming year. She was also collecting names of interested girls to start an All Girls Team in Glengarriff and a large number showed interest, so hopefully we will have more news on this front in the coming weeks. A great evening was had by all and let’s hope 2011 will be just as successful!
